Entrepreneurs have been recognized by many as the catalyst for economic growth and development. Raising women as entrepreneurs is a part of current government initiative. Although women entrepreneurs have become more important players in the entrepreneurial landscape, the number is still small as compared to businesses owned by men.
Women in Malaysia have played a very important role in the economic development. According to the Department's Chief Statistician Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin in 2015, 187,264 companies of the 920,624 active establishments nationwide were owned by women.
In early 1990, majority of women entrepreneurs involved in food and drink business, clothing and retail trade. In 2010 the beauty market is Malaysia is growing fast. Consumer expendire rate on cosmetics and toiletaries increased, many of women entrepreneurs ventured into cosmetics industry.
